Legal Disclosure
Precinct 208 of Cornelius is the banker for the Cornelius Dems. Precinct 208 undertook the time-consuming training and legal undertakings to register Precinct 208 with the North Carolina Board of Elections so it could hold and disburse monies from its own bank account for the benefit of Precinct 208.
The Cornelius Dems does not have the necessary legal authority to receive and retain any monies donated to it as it is not a registered entity with the North Carolina Board of Elections. Thus, when the Cornelius Dems was created as an area group by the Mecklenburg County Democratic Party in 2023, Precinct 208 determined that any monies given on behalf of the Cornelius Dems could be received, retained, and disbursed by Precinct 208, inasmuch as any disbursement of funds on behalf of the Cornelius Dems would necessarily inure to the benefit of Precinct 208 and its goals and objectives.
By Precinct 208 being the Cornelius Dems banker, the Cornelius Dems has access to funds for the purpose of advancing the Democratic Party election efforts, strengthening voter engagement, and community involvement.
